Yeah and so will Christmas. Your point being?

I mean, really, it's not difficult (and no, what i'm about to say is not up for debate), to keep to a schedule for such a company.

Something pops up? You work overtime on it. That's how it works in every other job.

It's easy for you to dismiss their efforts because you don't know what is going on here, so let me shed some light on this.

Things do pop up that impact scheduling, and as hard as the team works, sometimes even working overtime is not enough to release on schedule. There are also only so many hours in a day, and for the good of the game sometimes a build has to be delayed.

The Live Team has been working evenings and weekends for a long time now. They have been working 7 days a week. Linsey has even stayed at the office overnight on several occasions, pulling more all nighters on this than any other project she's been involved with. She hasn't had a day off in a long while.

I hope this gives you a better understanding.

By gum, Linsey deserves a spa treatment and big bottle of her favourite tipple after this one.

Anyone who displays a rampant lack of empathy for this amount of work going into this update is nothing but an over-entitled whiney jerk.

Staying overnight at work? That's all sorts of wrong.

Who cares if it comes Christmas or next year? Most people have finished the game and just waiting on GW2 it has no bearing on any except those who are still struggling with the most grindy of titles.

Its software engineering not a car factory where you can just turn the knob up on the assembly line and have unskilled labor work a few extra hours to increase productivity. Some programming issues are complex and just take time to figure out.

There's been a lot of talk in the forums and elsewhere about the upcoming game update later this week. Linsey and the rest of the Live Team have been working extremely hard on this for weeks, often working long hours. To try and illustrate this, Linsey mentioned on the wiki that the update notes were going to be pretty long this week -- though the rumour mill incorrectly interpeted her words to mean that this would be the biggest game update ever. The Live Team is working flat out this week to prepare for the build. This week looks like it will be full of nights of long hours for our QA team, who need to comb through the game to check that every single detail works the way it should. Linsey herself was here working very hard over the weekend. Myself and other members of the Live Team just had a meeting a short while ago. The amount of testing work that needs to go into this build is pretty sizeable, and they're warning me that it's possible that they may delay the build. Obviously, delaying the build past its scheduled date of November 13 isn't something they want to do in ideal circumstances, but they also want to make sure that they don't miss any details. I'm just posting to let you know that there is a chance that the build may be delayed. I will try and keep you all updated here.
let the lulz begin
Anet,late on an update?

I don't have much to say on this matter, but some of you are really acting like pompous asses. When did the community here descend to this level of cretiness? Most of you act like you don't even care about the game, yet you all still regularly post here, which either makes you hypocrites or sad 20-something year old losers with no lives.

I'd honestly find it hilarious if all of you were banned, just to see you all cry over a game you supposedly don't even care about.

(this isn't directed soley at you Pwny Ride, but you are a shining example).

Come on folks. Give the teams credit for trying. They work hard only to have a bunch of people wine and cry because it is not to their liking. Unfortunately, not everyone can be pleased. So I say this to the teams working so hard and long...
You can not please everyone all the time, there is always going to be someone who doesn't appreciate all you try to do for them. So take a day off, spend time with the wife/husband/kids etc... let them know you still care and forget about the rest of the world for a day or two. You deserve it.
I will admit i look forward to the updates, but I do not have to have them to function. So if an update is a bit later then anticipated, oh well, maybe the next day or the next week. So once again, for those working on the update, take a break and give the brain a break.

Although I don't know how much work goes into coding, as I've never done it, I have attempted coding, and I must say that seeing constant repeating of 1's and 0's is annoying. But I doubt that's all programmers do, sure there are words, but it must get annoyingly repetitive.

And pulling all nighters several occasions. Dear dear, I petition we put in money to get Linsey a spa trip. I suppose the other Live Teams, but mainly Linsey because we love her.

They've always been here, they're just louder now because the ones with any shred of humanity, decency or maturity gave up debating with the undebatable. Hence a large sucking void was left, which was eagerly filled by those who thought they "won" because they shout the loudest.

Those of us left trying to inject fact, empathy and reason into the discussion are...probably suckers for punishment , but there's always hope that we can change the internet into a better place for all.

Oh come on. Jobs are voluntary. If the job isn't worth the money, quit. Everyone knows the game industry is competitive and time-consuming. If you really want a job in that field, you do whatever it takes, or you find another job. You don't whine about it. Ofc, they're not here whining. They're too busy to whine - they're working for a living, which I realize not everyone here has ever had to do.

Regarding my earlier post, I said I was 'hoping' for some skill updates, not that I was definately demanding or expecting them.

But I would be highly surprised if an update that is meant to be this big didnt have any skill updates.

Now that's a very institutionalized, and male, response (even if you're not a male yourself, I don't know). Can't stand the heat? GTFO. No, that's NOT fair - enjoying your life is about enjoying your job; one shouldn't have to chuck it in just because you disagree with the hours.

There's plenty to be said for work-life balance, avoiding burnout, and for women it should be about being ABLE to have families and be made welcome and comfortable within a previously male dominated industry.

What would you prefer to have: an employee who works steadily and well over many years within a comfortable enviroment, or someone who works themselves to the bone and burns out within months? As far as long term productivity goes, I'd rather have the happier employee. Having to replace someone every few months, or year, can be even more restrictive to timetables as you have to bring the new employee up to speed.

Working on a computer game - sitting in a chair and typing - is a demanding job?

Get a sleeping bag in your office, lots of red bull and go go go!

Now if they were actually working a physically difficult job like construction or shelf stacking, working evenings and weekends 7 days a week would become impossible. They have a pish easy job they can spend all day working on it if they want people playing their game, every other game developer does just that without complaining.

Anet employees sound like they would be useless in my supermarket stacking shelves.
